A quick update to let you know what I have been doing.
Some people have been supply bug reports to the sourceforge page, and I want to thank them again for doing that, if you didn’t and found a bug or want a feature, let me know on the bug tracker!
At revision 70 I fixed the library widget, thanks to the patch from Rallaz, apart from that a little work was needed to make sure that libraries in a users home directory could picked up and that thumbnail generation worked properly.
I asked Andrew if I can include his Part Library in the CADuntu release because no license information was given, however you are free to download his, or any other parts library and put it in you library directory for your platform.
- Linux/Unix users : ~/.caduntu/library
- OSX users use : ~/Documents/CADuntu/library
- Windows user use : c:\Documents and Settings/<your username>/My Documents/Caduntu/library
Rallaz also prepared RPM’s for the following Linux distributions : OpenSUSE, Mandriva and Fedora they can be downloaded from this location : http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Rallaz/
Robert von Knobloch Submitted a bug report where a couple of menu entries where incorrectly displayed, this was solved in patch 69 and 70, thanks Robert for that, I completly over looked it.
Great! How do you fire up the library browser? I couldn’t find out.. (the entry in qcad view menu is not there in caduntu)
good point… I will check how the current QCad does that, in the case of CADuntu currently it’s done by right clicking somewhere in the left/right/bottom bar. Then there is a option to check the library browser.
If you have a other moment, please take a couple of minutes to download the parts library from the qcad website and see if you can load that in.
Thanks in advance for testing 😉
Raster image doesn’t work. when inserting an image, only the outline of the image shows up. It happens on all the formats. I have Qcad installed, and it works. I’m using Ubuntu 10.04 64bits.
My mistake! I does work! I just had to turn off Draft on the view menu.
I was about to comment on the draft option untill you mentioned it yourself.
I did notice that at least on QCad the PNG isn’t printed during printed. Does that work with CADuntu?
I have submitted a PKGBUILD to the Arch Linux AUR (Arch user repository). Arch users can now simply download the PKGBUILD and type makepkg to make an Arch linux package from the SVN source.
I don’t use Arch myself, but I am sure people will be happy with this.
If there is anything you want/need to be included in the source, just let me know and we can work together.
I have submitted two feature requests on the bug tracker. Sorry didn’t create a login. I will do that for future activity. Arch users tend to be very good at working with the upstream project so hopefully they wil report bugs and submit patches 😉
today a couple went in the bug track, and at least one of them is already solved.
Currently tracking down why cancel closes CADuntu … I will have that solved by tonight, teh time when I do my own sprints 🙂
do you need some help here : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=42642
Gumper is mentioning that fonts are missing but they are included in SVN and working on the default compile.
Within the program there is some ‘magic’ going on to search for fonts and other items like hatches andf if you need to have some directory included for Arch, then I am more then happy to do so.
The PKGBUILD has been changed to install the fonts directory. They can now be found in /usr/share/caduntu/resources. This should be the standard used by other distro packagers as they pick up caduntu. If this could be added to the config directory magic that would be great. Please not that this folder would not be writeable to the average (non root) user though. i.e they would probably still want to keep there own library parts in there home directory somewhere.
this project is great, but the name Caduntu induces error… it sounds like an Ubuntu-subdistro for CAD, and not a qCad fork – are there plans for a better name for this project? (there are no software-libre projects named LibreCAD, for example) – cheers, and please keep this project alive! 🙂
CADuntu.com happened to not be registered by anybody (LibreCAD is also free I see) and at the time I didn’t came up with a better name.
I wouldn’t think there is so much confusion though, but I am a Debian user and cadian.com is already registered 😀
No kidding, I think LibreCAD might be a better fit but let’s see, we can make a decision before the first release.
Have you considered setting up a PPA out of curiosity? Since you’re so debian/ubuntu friendly it seems like it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have an official ppa.
no I haven’t considered that- I would need to know what’s needed to make a PPA and how to maintain it. If it’s easy, for sure I won’t mind to have a PPA
CADguy, in the meanwhile there is no .deb or PPA, i tried to convert these .rpm files into .deb from Alien – since i only got error messages (maybe because something wrong in the way i installed or updated Alien), i did a tarball of these .rpm – i extracted these .rpm from FileRoller (that Archive Manager from Ubuntu), and compressed the resulting folders (just ‘./usr’ in both cases) into .tar.gz tarballs with the same filename of the .rpm packages (just ‘.tar.gz’ instead of ‘.rpm’) – and later, assuming we can first find a ‘usr’ folder when we open these .tar.gz in the FileRoller, on the terminal we do ‘sudo tar -zxvf packagename.tar.gz -C /’ – this worked on me, but anyway, my only advice is just extract tarballs in this way when you are completelly sure about what you are doing, and have experience on extracting tarballs inside the filesystem, since i can’t be responsible for any damage caused from this tip.
i made a logo for LibreCAD – http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/2029/librecad1640w.png – and about this project being host at caduntu.org, maybe will be a good idea having this page at http://www.caduntu.org/librecad , having http://www.caduntu.org/index.html temporarily with an automatic redirection, while caduntu.org is not used for hosting a cad-based subdistro of Ubuntu (like xubuntu.org or lubuntu.org) – and i think the name changing for LibreCAD should be done as soon as possible, while doing stuff like using preference filesystem locations like ~/.librecad , ~/.config/librecad and /usr/share/librecad is still easier – as well i have huge hopes in this project, and as well helping on it! anyway, congratulations for the wonderful initiative on forking qCad! 🙂
hi Ries! could i create an identi.ca group for LibreCAD? http://identi.ca/group/librecad
I have registered the domain librecad.org and librecad.com, so it should be easy to make it a full domain name, and I can have caduntu.org redirect back to librecad.org
Since I am still in beta, I am not to much worried about the config file naming, but at the first release candidate the name and hopefully logo should be settled up-on.
Over here (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3103230&group_id=342582&atid=1433847) we have a little thread about logo picking… I am pretty happy with Doe’s work and support there.
thank you Ries, i commented there, and did some improvements on the icon as well – http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/5046/icon2k.png – https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3103230&group_id=342582&atid=1433847 – for the LibreCAD splash is on your choose the square or the horizontal one, what do you (and you all) think?
Hi R. van Twisk!
First of all, let me give you many thanks because of Caduntu project! It`s a great job for Free Software foundation!
I`m a student from Moscow (Russia). I often had used Qcad for HomeWorks and etc… so I want to write you some wishes for program
1. Russian technical font for drawing. In Russia technical font is state standard so we need to use it like in example… I have done cxf of Rus font. (See atachment)
So If we use it for text. after closing files and opening again text transforms to “???????” signs (Opening this file in QCad – the same – “?????” signs)
2. Typography interval
it’s desirable to add control for keyring and other the distance between the letters, otherwise text is very lengthy
3. Very often it`s need to add text in cells of tables, and linking to crossing lines very uncomfortable…
Could you add linking to crossing but paste of text will be with some distance
See attachment png for explaining
4. Glass hatching
I made a Russian hatching for glass, could you add it in programm
glass hatching (Ru Standart)
font (Ru Standart)
thanks for your kind words!
Can you do me a favor and put this in the bugtracking system at sourceforge? https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=342582&atid=1433844
I am in the middle of moving to a other house, and I would not like to forgot about this one.
